We ARE

Dedicated to change.

BAAN is an expansion of what we endeavour to achieve as a Montessori school on a macro scale: to create a natural relationship between human beings and the environment. In symbiosis, we learn to live harmoniously not only with nature, but also with each other. BAAN is a community project that aims to let people associate together in a real and meaningful situation.

We aspire to develop a community and hold a space for that community to eat, learn, and play together as we maintain the land in a conscientious, sustainable way. As we continue to develop our land, we will promote the farm-to-table concept, not only with food but also with organic self-care and household products.

Our site : Different options have been considered on our site and the parameters for area zoning and suitable and complimentary functions have been established. Within this framework, our masterplan will evolve depending on our collaborators and a combination of skilled labour and educational building workshops.

Why?

It is no longer necessary to debate about the relevance or truth of climate change or mass pollution or the effects that our way of living so far have had on, not only the environment, but also on human health.  We are in the midst of a mass extinction, especially affecting our bee population and food supply. With that history of negligence toward the natural environment, we now have a responsibility to make some changes to the way we inhabit the world. We see the need for projects like BAAN on a global scale.

Sustainable communities are, and should be, popping up in every single corner of the Earth with the aim of not only spreading awareness but to also provide hands-on real life solutions. We promote activity—people actively taking part in making a difference. Through your own experience and engagement with nature, you will find that this is where true peace and happiness lie. Not only in making a difference, but also in recognising that we are not individuals, but are all part of a cosmic whole.

This is more necessary in our time than ever before.

Our Vision FOR TOMORROW

How?

A COMMUNITY OF FUNCTIONS

We have gone through substantial feasibility studies and dialogue to arrive with a series of 'sister’ functions complimentary to our vision. Our intention and planning allows for each of these functions to run independently on site as well as support, be supported and contribute to Baan's eco-environment and our neighbourhood community. These functions are :

COLLABORATION & PARTNERSHIP

For like-minded individuals that would like to be a part of Baan's vision, we invite you to have a chat with our team.

MASTERPLANNING

Our proposal starts with defining zones and axis that serve two criteria.

The first is defining the primary elements and landscape features of our existing site. Our second criteria is for the harmonious functioning of a multipurpose site. Our site's zoning is based on creating a safe environment for the children, as well as satisfy the residential units and  public usage of the site after hours and during the weekends. Our site is thus divided into two main zones :

Zone A – This area is in closest proximity to the school. It includes the eco-play park, outdoor seating and cafe. Termed the Active’ Zone, activities here are easily accessible and visible for adult supervision.

Zone B - Holding the yoga shala and buffer landscapes, Zone B is a shared space and acts as a transition zone between Zone A & Zone B. Designed as a raised outdoor platform, this area of the site has direct views to Chalong Temple.

Zone C - Termed the Passive Zone, this distant area holds the eco-accomodation hut area that naturally cocoons itself and contains an in-dependant access point and parking area.
