Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.

Who We Are

Conceptualised by the existing teaching faculty at the Montessori House Phuket International School, BAAN is a natural expansion of it's holistic principles into a wider spectrum of sustainable education, experience and living.

BAAN's approach and long term vision strives for thoughtful construction and mindful development in order to contribute to our local community as a value added commodity.. We are committed to the principal of human beings living in harmony with nature and learning through interactions and experiences with it.

When I learned about the concept of permaculture I realised that it coincides with our ideology and would be an excellent way to develop our property.

It is an expansion of what we endeavour to achieve at a Montessori school : To create a natural relationship between human beings and the environment as well as to let people associate together in a real and meaningful situation.

The land can teach people to provide food and supply basic needs such as housing, clothing and support self-help. We would also like to bring out the best of traditional Thai culture and hospitality.

KUN SHANE

Shane was born and raised in Bangkok where she earned her first degree in agriculture. This allowed her to engage with rural people during her studies and also to be involved with student council activities. After graduating, she worked for a large group of companies that led her to pursue a Master’s degree in IT (Information Technology). She was responsible for new projects in food processing and fast-food franchising chain stores. When she needed to consider her daughter’s education, she researched Waldorf and Montessori education and that led her to seek better solutions in Phuket. Through that endevaour, she began to work more peacefully as a pioneer and educator in the Montessori context, bringing the first and only Montessori school to Phuket. She was also lucky enough to be able to implement the permaculture project at BAAN, which she believe is in line with the MHP International School philosophy.

JOHN MOOD

John was born into a very different era, and has seen the development of many different social movements. He has been lucky enough to have been involved in Montessori education and now is excited at the opportunity to be a part of the current movement for sustainable agriculture in the form of permaculture.

Back in the day, he took a university degree in Geography, which inevitably highlighted many of the problems that progressively plague our modern world. Back then, opportunities to participate in movements that can change the world were not as available as they are today, which makes him happy to play his part in today’s practical solutions that can help solve some of those problems.

KRU NONG

Nong was luckily born into a rice-farming family and grew up in a house surrounded by lush green woods and rice terraces. Paddy fields and shrub forests were her adventure playgrounds where she spent most of her time.
Nong graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Service Industrial Management. She worked in various fields; hotel, law firms, and finally a wellness centre where she started to realize the importance of well-being for life. She then took an online certification course in fitness training to study health and physical fitness.
A year after that, she took an opportunity to be a Thai Teacher at MHP Interntaional School, giving mainly Thai and Thai Culture lessons. She has studied more in agriculture, attended an agri-nature (sustainable agriculture) workshop and started an organic farm in the school. She uses it as a learning tool to develop the student’s ability to understand Thai Culture more, as Thailand is an agricultural country, and also for them to learn how to grow their own organic foods that can help them live a healthier life.

DAPHNE CHARLES

Daphne is a holistic architect, biogeometry practitioner and co-founder of Routes of Yoga, born and raised in Singapore and Australia. Her interest in space and harmony began formally through architecture and progressed into studying universal laws on a more subtle level through yoga and within the natural structures of the human body and mind.

She sees the cultivation of balance and integrity between our inner and outer realms of mind and manifestation as a means towards integration, wholeness and developing compassion for others and our selves. Her work moves across scales and geography with the motivation to contribute positively toward holistic mindset, programs and spaces.

KRU NOK

Nok was born in the peaceful countryside of Thailand, surrounded by rice fields and farms. She had freedom under her parents’ conditions to experience many activities while they were busy working. Seventeen years ago she had a chance to work in a Montessori school where everyone has freedom within limits, on a campus full of nature. She has firsthand knowledge of Thai traditional farming techniques as it was part of her growing up and she loves to impart her knowledge and experience to new generations. She, therefore, loves being a part BAAN, both as a long-time Montessori educator and as her experience pertains to sustainable agriculture and a love of nature.
